Being Sick
For the longest time I haven't been sick but of course as soon as I start school I get a cold of course. I consider myself lucky that it is not covid as I tested positive last spring and I hope to never have that sickness again (fully vaccinated so not as bad as it could have been yay!).
When I am sick I just want to be left alone to my misery. James and I have both been sick so as much as we wanted to get done this weekend and didn't as we stayed in bed, watched movies, read and drank endless cups of tea. I believe that after all the stress of moving, getting to the UK, getting my biometrics permit, school starting and getting the house back in order my body was telling me it is time to take a break. I never feel guilty about taking a day or two especially when I am sick to relax and take some me time. I am so busy all the time that it is nice to sit back and relax at times.
Now I mentioned tea in a lot of my posts and ever since I started spending a lot of time in Britain I have come to love having a cuppa anytime. The Brits are very specific on how they make their cups of tea and I had to learn how, I will write it here and also post on my TikTok (@carpeltunnel0) on how to make the perfect cuppa. Start with fresh filtered water in the kettle and have it come to a boil. Put the tea bag in the cup and add the boiling water. Add two spoonfuls of sugar and some milk to make it a bit lighter and not too milky. One thing I have been told is that you never EVER squeeze the teabags, take the spoon and dunk the tea bag in to release the tea. Once you have the strength of tea desired then remove the tea bag and stir the cup of tea. Now this might be controversial but in this house and all of our friends houses we use Yorkshire tea and in our opinion it is the best tea.
Luckily for me a few days before I got sick I ordered and received my copy of My Hygge Home by Meik Wiking and I have had the time to read a bit of it. Our home is our safe place and my boyfriend is very much a homebody so I like to make it as cozy, comfy and Hygge as possible. Meik touched on making your home Hygge in The Little Book of Hygge but I am so glad he made a whole book on how to make sure every room and place in the home is as Hygge as can be. I have enjoyed reading this book and will be rereading it again and again.
On that note I am going back to bed and resting up for the long week ahead as it is Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend and I am hosting dinner for our friends.
Happy Hygge!
