Good Morning Hygge

Good morning! I like being up in the mornings to start the day but if I am honest I am not a morning person at all.

On the weekends there is nothing I like better to do is have a lie in with some coffee in bed. My boyfriend makes me the best coffee in the morning and on Sundays especially he brings me my coffee and we sit in bed and chat about the day, our plans for the week, future travel plans or just having a chat. If my boyfriend has something to do but I can stay in bed I like to read my book in bed for a little while, it lets me relax and enjoy the morning before its time to start getting ready for the day. A guaranteed way to make sure I am in a great mood all day is to open the blinds and let in the morning light and lighting a candle. Light is so important for the ambience of any room and is a key part of being Hygge.

Even though mornings are not always my friend I do enjoy waking up early morning on occasion and going for a walk in the spring or summer before it gets too hot. When everyone is still sleeping, the world is still and it is just myself, my dog and mother nature. There is a lovely path by my house that has beautiful trees, lots of nature and is right by a big park, it is wonderful and I am so grateful that I have this amazing place to take in the morning fresh air.

If there is time in the morning (especially on the weekends) and we have nothing to do for a little while we will make at home or go out with friends for a full english breakfast. For those of you who don't know a full english includes eggs, sausage, bacon, baked beans, toast, fried tomato, fried mushrooms and black pudding. Especially after a long night and if you are feeling a little green this is the cure for any hangover. It is one of the best parts I discovered about being in England. Sharing good food with great friends is a very Hygge experience and is a time I always enjoy.

On weekday mornings it is a little tough to find the time to relax. Getting ready for the day is mostly always a complete rush. I am lucky enough to work from home but before I start my work day I like to wake up, have a cup of coffee and take some time for myself before the chaos begins. My former boss got me these affirmations for Christmas and as often as I am able to I like to spread these cards out and take one to read and keep that positivity going throughout the day. This is something quiet and easy I can do in the morning that is very Hygge and makes me content. During the week before I start work I also like to practice yoga and meditate even if it is only for half an hour. This clears my mind and if I don't exercise in the morning I will be too tired to do so in the afternoon and to me it starts the day on a really positive note that I can hold onto for the rest of the day.

If you are in a rush in the morning or just need a few relaxing things to do before you start the day there are some easy activities you can do that take no time at all. Light a candle while you are getting ready in a scent that you love. Play some calming music and focus on your breathing even if it is just for a few minutes. Drink a cup of coffee and take a few minutes to look out the window and a moment to yourself.

I hope you enjoy some of these for an amazing Hygge morning.

Happy Hygge!
