Bedtime Hygge
Since I wrote in my previous post about Good Morning Hygge this next post of course has to be Bedtime Hygge. Bedtime is my favourite time of the day since the day is over and I can just let go of anything that I have thought about throughout the day. To lay quietly in bed next to my boyfriend, have a cuddle and watch a movie or a tv show that we've seen a million times is one of the best feelings after a long day.
Now I'll be the first to say I do not keep to a regular bed time. Sometimes I'm in bed by 10pm and other times it will be 3am. My boyfriend is a YouTuber and Streamer and since we live most of the year in Britain and his audience is mostly in North America we tend to be up late. Even on the late nights and I am so tired there are a few things I have to do before bed. Number one is of course wash my face and brush my teeth, I never skip this step as it washes the day off I feel so relaxed and ready for bed.
Bedtime is the best when there is a storm outside whether it be a thunder storm or snow storm. The comfort of being in a big bed nice and warm with fresh clean sheets and listening to the storm outside is the most Hygge thing I can think of. Light a few candles and enjoying being cozy with the candle light and of course have a cuddle.
I have gotten into the habit of once I am in bed I don't look at my phone anymore. The light keeps you awake, always checking social media is not good for anyones health and its nice to just turn off at bedtime. What I do instead since my mind is usually still racing on what I have to do in the morning I pick up a good book and read until it is time to go to sleep with a nice cup of tea. I know tea sometimes keeps people up but there is chamomile tea, jasmine or mint tea with no caffeine and it is a simple tea to drink before bed.
Sometimes when the weather turns cold and you don't feel like going out on a date then why not be big kids again and build a blanket fort. I have done this a couple of times with my boyfriend and we choose a movie to watch, have a glass of wine and cuddle up in our fort to watch the movie. More often than not we are tired anyways and its a nice way to spend some time together and have a date without going out and if one of us falls asleep we're already in bed!
I hope you take the time to practice some bedtime Hygge and have a restful and peaceful sleep.
Happy Hygge!
