Summertime Hygge
As we are in the midst of summer it might be hard to think of Hygge activities. We think of Hygge as being an autumn or winter experience but it can definitely be practiced in the summertime. I decided that my whole year would be filled with Hygge and summertime is no exception.
The other night we had a massive thunderstorm here so it was weather to stay indoors. My boyfriend and I love watching the thunderstorms together and where we are currently staying we have a massive covered deck overlooking the lake to watch the storm. Having a glass of wine while overlooking the beauty and intenseness of nature can do is one of the most Hygge activities you can do.
With the glorious weather comes so many outdoor activities and most cities and towns offer many outdoor events that are free or low cost. Try going to see an outside movie showing in a park, catch some live music or grab a group of friends and have a picnic. The beauty is to spend time with each other making those great summer memories.
With summertime comes holidays and time off from school and work. One of the best things to do in the summer is to hop in the car and go for a road trip. There is always something for everyone wether it be going to the beach, camping, cottage or exploring a new town. Twice this year my boyfriend and I have gone camping to two beautiful Ontario provincial parks Balsam Lake and Presqu'ile. We left the technology in the small little camper we have and spent the days exploring, walking, taking pictures and cooking great food. In the night time we started a fire while having a cold beer and just chatting. One day we we're there it just happened to be my birthday and my boyfriend spread out a rug and pillows and we just looked up at the stars and it was a perfect night.
There are some times in the summer where it is hot and it should be a lazy summer day. Going to sit outside in the shade to enjoy the fresh air, reading a good book, gardening or having a bbq. You can create the ambiance in any outdoor space you have. Start by getting some inexpensive lanterns and putting candles in them, have some comfortable chairs to sit in for people to chat and you can get some tiki torches which are also inexpensive. If your budget allows a fire pit is also a great addition and very Hygge. With the summer always seeming to be so short it is important to spend as much time as possible before we get cooped up in the house again for the colder months.
I hope this gives you some ideas for practicing Hygge in the summertime and this weekend I am trying out some new summer recipes which I will share with you here and on my TikTok.
Happy Hygge!
